Honozooloo Show

Aaron Yoshino has patience and lots of it. His observation skills are military grade, his energy is combustible, and his timing is laser like. Put a camera in his hands and you’ll get results – amazing results. Collaborating with Honozooloo (his nom de plume)  for hi2059 made me an instant life long fan of him and his work. In the far future, we’ll look back at life during Honolulu of 2011 and Aaron’s library of images will be our biggest window for sure. For those impatient for such futures, his first solo show starts this week at Hotel Renew. Not to be missed. Check the FLUXHAWAII website for more information.

Photography in 2019

In the movie Bladerunner, Detective Rick Deckard uses a machine to analyze a photo at extreme depths, reviewing parts of the image not present to the eye. I’ve always wondered how this machine could know what was in the room beyond what the lens could see. Nothing has really reached that level of intelligence in photography until now. Earlier this year, Microsoft demoed their Photosynth software which allowed thousands of independent images taken of a subject (Obama’s Inauguration) to be stitched together to create a master image which is navigable in almost all three planes (up, down, forward & back). Two similar projects lead me to believe that I’ll be able to play drunk-robot-detective in no time flat. We’ll look back at hires images like they’re Polaroids, black & white TV or AM radio. Can’t wait!

The RED Canon Invades Haleiwa

redcanon1

Apparently Vincent Laforet just finished a stint in country shooting Jamie O’Brien. You may have noticed the remote control helicopter hovering over the line-up at Pipe last week, well, that was them. The neat part is that Vincent has outlined his gear and posted a few “behind the scenes” videos on his blog containing footage shot with the RED One and the Canon 5D MKII.

Laforet shot the original drool-inducing promo video for the Mark II. The short gave us photo nerds an exchangeable boner the first time we saw it, and had us scrambling towards the pre-order list. Needless to say, Vincent’s had some time to experiment with the camera and figure out how to maximize its capabilities. We’re going to heed his advice and order our ND filters tomorrow.

Goes Benefit Concert

sergiophoto.jpg

Mark your calendars, a benefit for Sergio’s son Gabriel Kapuni Goes will be held on the 14th of September. Sounds like it’s gonna be a great event. Details below.

On Sunday, September 14th from 5-9 pm at Waterfront at the Aloha Tower (formerly Kapono’s), we will be gathering to celebrate the life of Sergio Goes and have a Benefit Fundraiser  for his young son, Gabriel Kapuni Goes.  Please feel free to pass the word around.

Music by Mike Love, The Girlas, Paula Fuga, performances by Giinko Marachino & Samadhi Hawaii (acrobats) are slated.  There will be an exhibition and sale of Sergio’s photographic works.

ASWS got a sneek peek at the photos to be showcased at the event, they’re some of the illiest underwater photos we’ve ever seen. Check out Sergio’s last photo shoot for Hana Hou Magazine or visit his website for more of his work.

A big mahalo to the Hamburger Eyes familia for letting me rock their awesome Ilford 2240 processor. Seriously though, that thing rules. 60 seconds, dry-in dry-out. The results are now available for purchase online. Start your art collection today.
