Wanna Join A Book Club?

free

I’ve been reading a number of excellent books recently on crowdsourcing, new marketing trends, and the value of brands in the digital age. I’ve begun to actively read, underlining passages for reference, noting sources for future reading, and blabbing on about my findings to anyone who will listen. I’ve realized that the blabbing part is perhaps the most valuable, since it forces me to summarize and defend my findings, which inherently strengthens my understanding of them. So why not find some other interested parties, and we can get together and blab all at once?

This is an open invitation to anyone who is interested. I’m setting a date and time of Thursday, September 17th, 6:00 p.m. at our office in Kaimuki. The book is Chris Anderson’s Free: The Future of a Radical Price. Here’s how it’s done: (1) Read the book. (2) Show up on the 17th and we’ll talk about it. (3) Leave with a renewed appreciation for your ability to read.

If you’re so inclined, you can RSVP by posting a comment to this post, otherwise just show up. I figure two things may happen. Either (A) we’ll run out of chairs and it will be quite embarrassing or (B) I’ll be blabbing to myself.

Mike Stewart’s Fire

Fire Flyer

Mike Stewart’s Fire plays twice tonight at Dave & Buster’s, 6p and 8p. Ten bucks at the door. I’m pretty sure I saw some footage from this film a few years ago at Cinema Paradise, and it’s definitely not a typical surf movie, waaay more arty. The version they’re screening is 40 minutes, but the DVD contains over 3 hours of footage. Dave told me that last week he saw Mike drop in to a good-sized closeout at Pipe, scoop around the lip, slide into a 180 to face the whitewash, hit the breaks by digging his tail, dunk the bounce and pop up behind the wave. WTF?! He’s a dolphin-man! Come witness his freakishness tonight!

sergiophoto.jpg

Mark your calendars, a benefit for Sergio’s son Gabriel Kapuni Goes will be held on the 14th of September. Sounds like it’s gonna be a great event. Details below.

On Sunday, September 14th from 5-9 pm at Waterfront at the Aloha Tower (formerly Kapono’s), we will be gathering to celebrate the life of Sergio Goes and have a Benefit Fundraiser  for his young son, Gabriel Kapuni Goes.  Please feel free to pass the word around.

Music by Mike Love, The Girlas, Paula Fuga, performances by Giinko Marachino & Samadhi Hawaii (acrobats) are slated.  There will be an exhibition and sale of Sergio’s photographic works.

ASWS got a sneek peek at the photos to be showcased at the event, they’re some of the illiest underwater photos we’ve ever seen. Check out Sergio’s last photo shoot for Hana Hou Magazine or visit his website for more of his work.

Friday Pau Hana Returns

Pau Hana Friday is back! Friday, February 15th at 6:00p we’ll be hosting Audible Empire at our Kaimuki studio.

What’s Pau Hana Friday? Well, it’s our studio open house that encourages creative networking and discussion. Everyone is welcome to join us and bring a six-pack of their favorite brew to unwind at the end of the work week. Bonus points for Tamura’s jalepeno pipikaula.

Things kick-off at 6:00 p.m. and we’ve invited our friends Audible Empire to bring their amps and cymbals for a sweaty rock set. Some other creative endeavors will be happening as well.

If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello.

Win Tickets To Sound + Vision

Word on the street is that ELECTROMA is close to sold out (about 30 tickets left), and CONTROL is close behind. But don’t fret, you can still win tickets to both films!

We have a few tickets to give away to anyone who can prove their love for JOY DIVISION or DAFT PUNK. Send us an image that shows you are the biggest Joy Division or Daft Punk fan in Hawaii. Dig out those mod pictures from the 80’s or get cracking on some fancy helmets.

Please email your image to contest@airspaceworkshop.com. Deadline for entries is Thursday afternoon at 5pm. 5 winners will be selected for each screening and notified via email.

Ratatat

Ratatat

Wow. Yesterday an ATM spit out an extra $40 at me, and now this!?

Apparently they’re going on after those Sub-Pop indie superstars, and I really hope I can just show up and dance, without subjecting myself to emo swaying for an hour beforehand, but either way, Mike Stroud and Evan Mast are headed to Pipeline on July 23rd. That’s one week folks.

On a side-note, I just found out that Evan is half of the Mast clan that runs Audio Dregs, which I just saw on a Cool Hunting video. The world is slightly smaller now.

Update: Photos from the show are now online.
